Capuchin Friary Kilkenny / Communal Architecture

Description

A sensitive renovation of The Friary to facilitate the introduction of modern facilities, a lift and to provide wheelchair and ambulant disabled access to the 19th. Century Friary building. Ramps and paved areas replaced steps for easier access. The premises is a protected structure in the current Kilkenny City Development Plan. The bell tower was cleaned and repaired during the works and re-slating was done using salvage slate. The works included the construction of a new refectory pavilion opening onto the garden. The garden area was upgraded and gates and a drive was provided from the adjoining lane for service access. En-suite accommodation was provided throughout and extensive upgrading of fire safety features in the building was undertaken.
