Kilkenny Courthouse, Parliament St., Kilkenny / Conservation Architecture

Description

The refurbishment and extension of Kilkenny Courthouse was completed Spring 2010. Bluett & O'Donoghue Architects were engaged as Conservation Architects to the project in association with the Office of Public Works' Design Team with responsibility for:- appropriate specifications for conservation works; attendance at project meetings and periodic site inspections; design input to the interpretation and presentation of historic fabric uncovered during the course of the project.

The latter aspect of the BODA remit has been crucial to the success of the project following the unexpected discovery of part of the city wall during the course of the archaeological investigations.

The finished project provides three new courtrooms, in addition the two historic courts restore the character of the historic building by removal of later accretions and restoration of historic buildings.
